I am a physicist and currently a researcher in the Non Thermal Plasma group from Laboratory of Plasma Physics in Ecole Polytechnique near Paris (https://www.lpp.polytechnique.fr/-Olivier-Guaitella- ). I received my Ph.D. degree in 2006 on the study of plasma/photocatalyst interaction for indoor air treatment.
My research activities are focused on the study of molecular plasma-surface interaction at “elevated” pressure, which corresponds to ranges from mbar to atmospheric pressure. This includes the study of ionization wave propagation on dielectric surfaces as well as the study of out-of-equilibrium vibrational kinetics. As an experimentalist, these subjects lead me to develop or adapt measurement methods to the in situ study of plasma in interaction with complex materials, catalytic or not. In particular, I make extensive use of infrared absorption spectroscopy in the gas phase or on solid surfaces.
This research has applications in indoor air treatment, heat-sensitive surface treatment, biomedical applications, experimental modelisation of planetary atmosphere and, of course, CO2 recycling by plasma/catalysis. Within PIONEER I have the role of scientific coordinator and I co-supervise the ESR 1 and 15.
